Local Address is a bio-regional design collective based in the Northern Rivers, comprising registered architects, designers & building professionals.

We aim to elevate our area’s undervalued, low-carbon materials, so that our industry can design and build with a ‘sense of place’ within the natural limits of our bio-region.

We live in an area rich in local bio-based, geo-based and circular materials including agricultural by-products, invasive weeds, earthen and waste materials. Despite this, the vast majority of our buildings are made from high embodied energy, mass-produced materials of which we have little awareness of the impact of their extraction, manufacture or transport.

Through consultation, collaboration, design, and hands-on construction, we support projects within the built environment to embed local materials into their palette. Our research, material development and educational programs work to encourage the shift from a extractive globalised supply chain towards a regional ecosystem of materials, knowledge and skills.

Local Address were a 2025 recipient of the community funded Seed Giving Circle Awards, with the funding going towards our first major initiative, The Northern Rivers Bioregional Material Atlas.
